JESUS-CENTERED

What Jesus-centered means to us

Jesus-centered, for us, means Jesus is the center of our spirituality—his vision of God, his way in the world. Jesus is all about fostering connection to God, self, others and the wide world. And we think it’s connection that we need more than answers (especially to questions we may not be asking).

You’ll find this strand in our music, in our teaching, in how worship flows on Sunday (communion every week, for example) and, we hope, in the things that matter most to us.

Jesus-centered and non-denominational fits great with gay-friendly and progressive

Sometimes people don’t expect to see terms Jesus-centered and non-denominational, combined with gay-friendly and progressive. We think they fit together just fine. But more than that, we think the Jesus-centered part is key to all the rest working together.

Another way to say this is that spirituality—fostering a sense of connection to God, others, self, and the wide world—is really important to us. We like the discipline of asking ourselves not “How does Jesus fit into X, Y, or Z?” but how does X, Y, or Z, fit in with Jesus? Sometimes the result is surprising.
